Souptember Day 8

So I think I’m going to use this opening section to talk about soups in different media. You can take the time to view yesterday’s minestrone if you’d like.

Since I used the instant pot, I still have some leftovers of it, and it was pretty good.

You know what else is pretty good? Super Mario Odyssey.

It was the first game I got on my Switch, and one of the first Mario games I played, because I didn’t grow up with Nintendo. Why am I talking about this game here in this soup post? Well, there’s a soup level in the game.

Technically it’s a kitchen/food level in general, but the big boss fight at the end is in a giant pot of soup, and you need to avoid all the vegetables and other ingredients to fight the big boss who is eating the soup.

It was a fun game, and there’s a lot of bonus stuff in it too. I still haven’t completed it 100% yet.

Have you played it before? Let me know what you think!

Split Pea Soup

I have had this soup one other time before from a can. I hate hate canned peas and how mushy they are, and pea soup just turns it to 11

Why am I making this soup if I don’t like it? Well it is a soup, and I promised 30 days of soup so it would have to be made eventually

Let’s see how it turns out!

What You Need

  • Can of peas
  • Onion
  • Chicken Broth
  • Olive Oil
  • Garlic
  • Carrots
  • Bacon
  • Various spices eg. cayenne pepper, salt, pepper

Basically all these other ingredients are necessary to try and mask the gross taste of canned peas

Dice up the carrots and onions

Pour some olive oil in a saucepan to heat up, then add onions and carrots

Sauté for a few minutes until soft

Add some garlic and cook for a few more minutes

Add the chicken broth and peas

If your can of peas (gross) is like mine, then your peas are not split. I’m not sure how to easily split them in the can, so you can just get a fork and split them in the pan like I did

yuck

Continue to split the peas in the pan, while heavily stirring together

Let the soup come to a boil, then reduce to low heat

Add your bacon and ham, and also various spices

Stir well

At this point, I regretted even making this soup

It smells well, but looks absolutely awful

I miss that messed up clam chowder

Look at this. Absolutely disgusting

My cat didn’t even stick around when I was making this soup, and she’s always been in the kitchen with me on all the previous ones

I should’ve understood at the time

And there you have it

Mushy pea and carrot soup

I added crackers and more salt to try and hide the flavor some more, and it actually tasted better than it looked

I still regret making this though, because after I made it I have a really upset stomach

Never again

If there was any soup during this month you’re not sure if you want to make or not, do NOT make this one. It’s not good

Hopefully the next one tomorrow will be better. We’ll see.
