5 Things to Know About Hockey

Before last Thursday, I have never seen a Hockey game in person. I didn’t really know much about the game itself before I researched it right before.

This is a hockey stick. It’s basically the hockey player’s third arm, because the skates they wear on their feet don’t allow them to bend over to grab the puck.

This is the puck. Think of it as a donut without the hole, or an Oreo cookie without the filling. All the players leave in on the ground and push it away using their sticks because they all ate before the game and want to leave it inside the other team’s net.

This is a net. It is located on either ends of the rink, and the players want to get the puck inside the other team’s net.

This is ice. It is very cold and made of frozen water. The players skate on it. They have to play the game quickly because the longer they skate, the quicker it melts and then it’s just a large pool.

This is Gritty. People equally fear and adore him, usually at the same time. He is the lovechild of Animal from the Muppets, and the Cowardly Lion from The Wizard of Oz. He is the King of Hockey and must be appeased.
