AquaWeek – DAY ONE

Top 5 movies that take place mostly underwater that I’ve seen

HONORABLE MENTION:

Jaws

I kind of have to mention this Spielberg film, right? It’s definitely a 70’s classic, but it’s pretty boring to watch: A killer shark that attacks and kills anyone who steps foot into the ocean. Just don’t go into the water and you’ll be fine.

NUMBER FIVE:

Life – Narrated by Oprah Winfrey

“This remarkable collection brings together the two most riveting, highly praised natural history series ever produced, Planet Earth and its stunning follow-up, Life! Planet Earth takes viewers on a breathtaking tour of the entire planet. ”

This 11 part documentary that takes place within 4 different DVDs is very beautiful. I’ve never seen it all the way through. It’s eleven parts. The underwater disk is pretty good.

NUMBER FOUR:

The Incredible Mr. Limpet

Following the success of the combination of animation and live-action from Mary PoppinsThe Incredible Mr. Limpet is about a shy man who loves fish and wishes he could be one. His dreams come true when a magic fish turns him into an animated creature who still needs glasses to see for some reason.

His fish powers also grant him the ability to do a super sonar scream underwater, and he then decides to join the Navy and help America find secret German submarines to destroy them. It’s a weird movie made in 1964.

NUMBER THREE:

Shark Tale

This… this is a movie. It was made in 2004 after the popularity of Shrek and is full of weird characters and fish puns. If you haven’t seen or even heard of it before now, I envy you.

NUMBER TWO:

The Spongebob Squarepants Movie

YES! This movie is fantastic and everything Stephen Hillenburg did to this character was incredible. It’s full of laughs and serious moments and I loved watching this in the theater in 2004.

NUMBER ONE:

Finding Nemo

AR-160429970

This one is just kind of expected to be number one in this. It’s a beautiful film about fish and parenting and easily one of my favorite animated movies. The beginning scene always makes me sad; I’d even say it could be as sad or sadder than the beginning sequence of Up.

Be sure to check back tomorrow as we continue to celebrate(?) the release of Aquaman with another water-based post!
