Boss Baby: An Oscar study [PART ONE]

On March 31, 2017, The Boss Baby was released to theaters by 20th Century Fox. On January 23, 2018, the movie was nominated for the Academy Award of “Best Animated Feature” along with The Breadwinner, Coco, Ferdinand, and Loving Vincent. Many people were both surprised and appalled about The Boss Baby earning a nomination, and with good reason; the movie had received a 52% on RottenTomatoes, and a score of 50/100 on Metacritic. If movie reviews have any impact at all on The Academy, then it makes absolutely no sense how this movie received a nomination.
For the next few weeks before the Oscars, I will try to dissect and understand exactly why this movie received a nomination, and what exactly it going on in this movie.
How much in this movie is real?
How much is this kid’s imagination?
What does it mean for getting a nomination?
What if it wins?
Hopefully by the end of this sequence of articles I will have found out and properly shown exactly what the (anti)hype of this movie is all about.
In the next few days we’ll start this review with dissecting the plot of The Boss Baby.
