Yesterday I made some Ramen, and it’s the start of the short trend of budget soups
Running out of ingredients, and the goal for this week now is to make soups with the lowest expense possible, and still taste good
I might make some soups with more ingredients than previous ones, but that’s only to use up the ingredients I originally bought for previous soups
Hopefully these are soups everyone can make, with limited ingredients
So without further ado, let’s get to souping!
French Onion Soup
I didn’t even know Shrek was French
What you will need
- Swiss Cheese
- Provolone Cheese
- Bread
- Garlic Powder
- Minced Onion
- Salt
- Pepper
- Can of French Onion Soup

Very few ingredients needed for this soup, so hopefully it’ll be good

Put a slice of bread in your toaster oven/oven, set it to bake for 5-ish minutes to melt the cheese on top

Pour your can of French Onion soup into a saucepan and heat on medium while the cheese in the oven melts

Break up pieces of swiss cheese and put in the soup to melt. I personally put in three slices

Give your cat a tiny piece of cheese because she’s a good girl and deserves it

Be sure to keep an eye on the bread in the toaster oven so it doesn’t overcook and melt through the bars

Add all the spices to the soup as the swiss cheese melts
Stir well

Check on the bread again
I don’t actually think it’s melting that much?
I set it for at least 10 minutes not because it didn’t cook too much with the original time I set

Oh.
So the microwave was the only thing plugged in because I unplugged the toaster oven to use the Instant Pot a few days ago
I swear I’m not making this up as a joke for today’s writing, but an important step is to make sure all your appliances are working correctly

Plug in your toaster oven and reset the cook time to melt the cheese over the bread
(Again)

At this point the soup is probably done cooking and may start to bubble, so reduce to low heat or turn it off entirely
Stir well because the swiss cheese might be clumpy

And there we go! All melted
Pour your soup into a bowl, and put your bread on top

I used way too big of a bowl for this but it’s fine
The bread may soak up some of the soup, which is fine
My soup tasted pretty good, how’s yours?
Be sure to check back tomorrow for some more low-budget soup
