I can’t believe it’s been a year.
A year with this round, blue egg with yellow legs and shoes.

What started off as a dumb joke on Twitter became a much bigger thing after an egg hatching on the KU campus was announced for March 7.
The original post I made about Eggy in October 2018 can be found by clicking here.
Eggy Jay became a VERY big deal, which surprised me a lot. As most people who read these blog posts know, I am in the marching band at KU, and I think it’s because of that reason Eggy became something special.

Everyone I know was talking about the hatching. Sure, it ended up to be just some statues, but Eggy is what brought the hype. Many people besides myself tweeted and posted stuff about it, and the Kansas Union twitter account ended up following me because of it.

I wasn’t able to go to the hatching due to the fact that I was on a bus for a band trip, but thankfully the Kansas Union Facebook page had a livestream for it, and I could hear throughout the bus everyone’s phones on the livestream of the hatching. Sure it was just a bunch of statues as I predicted earlier, but just the idea of Eggy made it fun.
But don’t take my word for it. Here’s some interviews from a few people who actually saw Eggy Jay at the hatching:
The story of Eggy Jay started the beginning of my Junior year at KU. The story is still going on, and Freshmen I know are even continuing it.
I am a senior now, about to graduate in a few months. Eggy Jay is the legacy I leave behind, and I am okay with that.
