I was born just like everyone else: as a young baby. Everyone, except for Benjamin Button. He was born as an old man, and died as a baby. It was a curious case.

One of my favorite things to to when I was really young and needed something to do was watch TV. The show Blue’s Clues was one of my favorite, and I can remember an episode where they went to space. There was one where Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper had a kid they and the older kid, Paprika, named him Cinnamon. And then Steve left, and later Blue got a new show and everyone turned into puppets. It got weird, and I stopped watching at that point.
There has been a huge debate between the two different hosts of Blue’s Clues. There was the original host, Steve, and later his younger brother Joe. Most people prefer Steve and hate Joe, and I agree. But, there has been no actual reasonings that I could find about why Steve is better. I did my research, and now I can tell you all exactly why Steve is better than Joe:
1. In real life, Steve’s name is Steve, and Joe’s name is Donovan.
He was lying to us from the very beginning.

2. Steve wore the same type of clothes everyday.
With Steve, you could expect consistency. Steve spends his day having fun, and he looks the same so kids can easily recognize him and bond with him. Steve wore the same green and lime green striped shirt every single episode. With Joe, you didn’t know what to expect. He could have been wearing green, he could have been wearing orange, maybe he wore red, or yellow. The only thing familiar in Joe’s outfit were the squares on his shirt, and nobody can bond with squares.

3. Steve went on after the show to get a college education.
Even though it was incredibly sad when he left everyone and was replaced with Joe, Steve’s story was concluded when he went to pursue a higher education. That is a noble thing. We don’t even know if Joe had an education, he just appeared out of the blue one day and stayed.
4. Steve owned a home
Homeownership is hard to accomplish in days like these, but Steve could afford a home with talking appliances and utensils back in 1996-2002. He could afford a home and a college education. Joe probably bummed around until he heard that Steve was leaving, and showed up on his doorstep right away. Steve didn’t even mention Joe in the show before he arrived, meaning that even he doesn’t like him.
5. Joe was used as a marketing tactic for kids
I’m sorry, but I have to go back to talking about Joe’s shirts for a bit. You know how kids like to imitate and buy the things they see on TV? At least, I did. I actually had an inflatable big red chair from the show until my brother popped it destroying it forever.
Kids always try to get their parents to buy things for them, and I was no different. Joe ruined this for parents because he kept changing everything. You couldn’t buy a single shirt of Joe’s, because in the next episode you watch he’s wearing a different color! Parent’s could not even get a simple notebook and decorate it like the show anymore, because when Joe arrived the notebook changed to an actual shape of the chair, making it slightly more expensive to buy because of it’s unique shape. My parents eventually resorted to just using homemade crayon wrappers too, because even they customized the crayons.

I would like to apologize to my parents for how needy I was back in 2001-2003, when I wanted everything from this show.
6. Joe didn’t actually add anything new to the show
After Steve left and Joe took over, it really was all just the same with a new host. Joe didn’t innovate the show in any way, he literally was just a replacement for Steve. In real life, Steve was written out of the show by the creators and writers because he was starting to go bald. Joe was not going bald, so that obviously made him the perfect candidate to replace bald Steve, because children obviously can not relate to a bald man on TV.
If you want to see any other reason why Steve is awesome, I suggest checking out this video. And to those who are going bald: be careful out there, because someone claiming to be your brother might appear out of the blue and try and replace you.
